WHAT ARE HEIRLOOM SESSIONS?
Heirloom sessions are geared towards your parent(s) or grandparent(s). This is about them in or around their home. A few years ago, I captured my in-laws in their home. Just them. Doing really normal, everyday things. They had breakfast, did the dishes, read the paper, played boggle, and got the mail. At that point they were just entertaining the idea of downsizing and moving out of the home they had lived in for 45 years. I had always taken pictures of them with the kids and with family milling about over the holidays, but never just the two of them in their space. I asked them if they would let me follow them around for a morning and they obliged with only a few weird looks. My in-laws have since moved and I treasure those photos because not only did I capture the two of them, I captured them in the space that we miss dearly. In Heirloom Sessions I will capture not only the person, but their treasured spaces and objects. For some, this might be about capturing the details, hobbies, collections, gardens, workshops, tinkering in the garage or their favorite path around the neighborhood. For others, this may be about the beauty and the struggle of growing older. Aging is something we are taught to fight, but it comes with a story we should try to view as a gift. I would be honored to capture this story for you.
WHAT ARE HEIRLOOM SESSIONS NOT?
While every session will look different, there are a few stipulations that will make these sessions the most unique and powerful they can be. The biggest thing I want to clarify. . . THIS IS NOT AN EXTENDED FAMILY SESSION. You know those big family photos where everyone is beautifully dressed, coordinated, lined up and looking at the camera? Those are treasured photo favorites and are often requested, but that is not what this session is about. That doesn't mean that other family members can't be involved in a portion of the photos. Showing connections to the people we love is really important to me and can be a big part of this session, but I also really want to focus on the couple or individual. If you have any questions about how involving other family members would look, please feel free to message me with any questions.
WHY ARE THEY CALLED HEIRLOOM SESSIONS?
These photos are not just for the people I photograph. This documentation is a gift for our children and their children. This is capturing a slice of life that is rarely captured. When we are young, we snap and celebrate every milestone. Then. . . we stop. Aging can be difficult, but it should stil be celebrated. There is still beauty in the stories of our parents, grandparents or elderly friends.
WHAT IS THE INVESTMENT AND WHAT IS INCLUDED?
2019 Sessions are currently set at $425.00.
A retainer fee of $100.00 is due at time of booking to hold your spot. The remaining balance is due on the day of the session, but I would be happy to arrange a payment plan to make the fee more manageable. Please let me know if you would like to make this type of arrangement at the time of booking and we will iron out the details.
Included in this session are my time and skill in planning, photographing and editing this session.
50+ mix of color and black and white photographs sent to you in a digital download to print where you like. I have places I use that I would recommend for printing and creating gifts for your family.
